Cracking the Code: Part I

Eating to Thrive

Food is super important, yes, that’s not a novel statement. But I don’t think everyone understands the effects most foods have on us and that’s the spark in the forest. We ingest and almost accept how we feel as just “that’s me” or “that’s my normal”. Many times it’s NOT you and it’s NOT normal. Many times it’s an inflammatory response yelling at you. Many times it’s your microbiome screaming “help” as it’s wrecked from exogenous forces. Your gut talks to your brain, we have evidence of that. If your gut is stressed, how do you think you will feel? Stressed. And typically you can’t figure it out because we haven’t put the pieces together. This is just one example. I could go on for a long time on this one but we’ll move on.

You don’t put bad gas in your car. Don’t put bad food in your body. Defining bad food can be a challenge but I usually define it as:

  • anything in a bag that’s sealed from the manufacturer (processed, lacking nutrients, old, rancid)

  • added ingredients exceeding 3-4 at most (processed, quality issues)

  • added sugar (inflammatory)

  • artificial colors (petroleum based, toxic)

  • preservatives (don’t allow your body to break down)

  • seed oils (gas products to extract, rancid, inflammatory)

Simplifying

Eat simply. Return to real food. Meats, fresh meat, organic dairy, vegetables, fruit, nuts, sprouted seeds, legumes. Unprocessed and unadulterated. Choose the simplest form of food and go that route every time. You can put these things together and create amazing meals. We just have to avoid the junk that has been labeled “food” and is making us sick.

Live well,
Joe
