Losing Fear: Using the Heart-Brain to Captain Your Ship

Fear has the uncanny ability to paralyze us, preventing us from reaching our full potential and achieving our goals. Whether it's the fear of failure, rejection, or the unknown, allowing fear to control our actions can hinder personal and professional growth. By identifying and confronting our fears, we can break free from the confining courtyard of inhibition and pave the way for continued success. Here are three essential steps that will help guide you through the process of removing fear and empowering yourself to become your best.

1. Identify Blindspots

Identifying fear blindspots in life is crucial for personal growth and well-being. Fear blindspots are the hidden or subconscious fears that influence our thoughts, actions, and decisions without our conscious awareness. These fears may manifest as self-doubt, avoidance of certain situations, or reluctance to pursue ambitious goals. To uncover these hidden fears, introspection and self-awareness are key. Pay attention to recurring patterns of hesitation or resistance in various aspects of your life. Engage in honest self-reflection to identify the underlying fears that might be holding you back. Once these fear blindspots are brought into the light, you can address them more effectively, allowing for greater self-confidence and a clearer path toward your aspirations.

2. Call on the Heart-Brain

Fear often stems from negative thoughts and old rusty belief patterns. To break free, it's essential to create new mental images of abundant success. It’s also critical you involve the heart-brain in the process by actually feeling your success before it happens. Feel it in your heart and make the connection with your heart-brain for an upgraded superpower ability. These tips will erase the layers of doubt and inadequacies you’ve dealt with in the past. Use these methods to increase your connection:

  1. Meditation (serotonin-activated relaxation practices)

  2. Yoga (GABA-induced mood stabilization)

  3. Laughter (endorphin-mediated visual effects)

  4. Music (dopamine-regulated auditory effects)

  5. Massages, hugging (oxytocin activated tactile responses)

3. Rule of 1%

Instead of letting fear overwhelm you, break down your goals into smaller, manageable steps. Taking small, strategic actions not only makes the journey less intimidating but also builds momentum. Celebrate each achievement, no matter how small, and use it as fuel to propel yourself forward. I have a 1% rule. As long as we’re making a 1% improvement, we’re moving forward. By consistently making progress, you'll gain confidence and crush the power of fear one day at a time.

Fear is a natural human emotion, but it should not control the course of our lives. By identifying and acknowledging our fears, changing our approach and mindset, and taking small, strategic steps, we can learn to captain our ship throwing excessive fear to the sea. The path to success is paved with courage and resilience with every step forward being a victory over fear.

Live well,
Joe
